"Thirteen Reasons Why" by Jay Asher is about a girl named Hannah Baker who committed suicide. Before Hannah killed herself she recorded her voice on audiotapes. On each tape there was a side A and a side B. Each side of the tape was Hannah talking about a person who was a contributing factor to why she killed herself. In total there were thirteen reasons why Hannah Baker killed herself.
One day Clay Jensen got a package on his doorstep and found out that he was one of the reasons Hannah killed herself. Now throughout the night Clay goes around his town listening to Hannah's voice on each tape and wondering what he could have done that would have prevented Hannah from doing what she did. By the end of the night Clay realizes that what he says to people matters.
